Beesfit Gundogs Q&A: Tips from ambassador @Beesfitgundogs

If you've been keeping up with Paws@brooklyn, you may know about Gundog trainer Damien, who manages the social media account @beesfitgundogs.

To help kickstart you’re training for 2025 we caught up with Damien to learn more about what a training session with him entails and to gather some tips for those embarking on their gundog journey or competing this year.

Damien has recently become trials secretary for Wiltshire and after entering and succeeding in many tests and trials over the years, has a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide you if you would like to look at entering your Dog.

Here’s what we discovered…

Please tell us what dogs you currently have and how they came into your life?

14 English Springer Spaniels, 1 Cocker Spaniel, 2 black Labradors. Bred most of the Dogs himself. Damien used to be a Gamekeeper and had his first Springer at 14 years old, currently on the 5th generation of Beesfit line.

What made you become a dog trainer?

After 17 years of being a Gamekeeper and love of Dogs, he started trialling and competing in tests and friends asked him to help with their Dogs and Beesfit Gundog Training followed on from there.

Do you have any favourite breeds?

English Springer Spaniel

What does a session with you look like?

Firm but fair, fun and laughter, always finish on a positive note. Built around enabling the Dog to succeed in a kind but firm manner.

What are your favourite Paws@Brooklyn products

Current training vest and dummies, everything!!

Any advice for anyone starting gun dog training?

Don’t be too hard on yourself or the Dog, don’t expect too much when they are puppies, keep it simple and enjoy the training process…
