Q&A with Becca from @Beccas_Mini_Zoo

Hello Becca! Thank you for agreeing to a Q&A please can you tell us a little bit about you and your dogs!

Hello! I live in East Lothian in Scotland with my three dogs. I have a three year old miniature dachshund called Fig, a three year old Cocker Spaniel called Flo and a two year old Black Labrador named Sage. I go picking up throughout the shooting season and I love seeing my dogs work to the best of their abilities, exactly what they were bred for.

How long have you been working the dogs?

I started training my two gun dogs from eight weeks old as I think it’s important to start training them as soon as possible with basic commands such as recall, sit and stay. I took them both out to shoots from a young age as I’m a firm believer that young dogs should be out and experiencing new environments to help grow their confidence.

What is it like being a Paws@brooklyn ambassador?

I love being part of such a supportive and caring team that all share the same interests. Sarah, Hannah and all the reps are such an amazing group of women too!

What is your favourite activity with the dogs?

My favourite activities include competing in scurries and dog shows at The Game Fair and agricultural shows because I enjoy seeing my girls compete and win rosettes. However, you will also find me out at the beach with my Stand Up Paddle board with my girls in tow.

What is your favourite Paws@brooklyn products?

There are so many great products to choose from but our most used is either the Rainbow dummy or the rabbit ball with throwing handle. My girls go crazy for these and we love using them every day during our training.

You went to Crufts earlier this year! How was it?

Competing in Crufts this year was a dream come true! I am so proud of Sage and how well she coped with the large arena, being surrounded thousands of people and dogs, and being there without her sisters!

Any advice for anyone getting in to working dogs this year?

My biggest piece of advice is to remember that nothing worthwhile comes easy or quickly! It also really helped to attend gun dog training sessions to teach both myself and my dog new ways of learning skills.
